Born in Toronto, Julie McNeil is an early member of the Bohemian Embassy Poets' Workshop (later Phoenix). An eager and experienced reader in numerous venues both on stage and radio, she identifies with the long oral tradition of poetry, revealed in the strong lyrical voice of her work. Julie's poetry has appeared in periodicals and anthologies, including Poems for Sale in the Street (Steel rail, 1979), Other Channels (League of Canadian Poets, 1984), The Limits of Miracles (Bergin and Garvey, 1985), and in my chapbook Ching, the Well (1976). Four Red Crescent Moons (Wolsak and Wynn, 1998) is her first collection.

"Poetry is a form communication. At its best, a reading transports the listener into the fabric of the poem. In the ideal, the unexpected impressions of the audience enrich your own understanding of the work."

For most of her life, Julie has lived in the Toronto Beach area, where she is active in community concerns and enjoys creating an outrageous Easter bonnet for their local parade. View this year's model in her photo.
